We have a number of aquatic research facilities at the University of Essex including a customised heated aquarium facility for long term population dynamic and life history evolution experiments, as well as two behavioural ecology suites for working with temperate and tropical marine and freshwater organisms. This is in addition to the Coral Reef Research Unit which house growth and experimental facilities for a number of tropical coral species which is managed by Professor David Smith.

Field research opportunities include access to a long term Experimental Lake Research Area focussing on the community ecology and environmental science of Oligotrophic systems in collaboration with Pär Byström at Umea University.

We also conduct our research in a number of salt and freshwater marsh locations close to the University of Essex campus.
